How to read your daily progress in percent

By the Factory Demo Editorial Team

Published · Last updated

Factory Demo shows daily progress as the number of entries divided by your daily goal, multiplied by 100 and rounded down to a whole number. The value stops at 100 when the goal is met. Read it together with the week view: the number of days you reached the goal tells you more than any single day.

How is the progress number calculated?

The progress number is calculated by dividing today’s entries by your daily goal, multiplying by 100 and rounding down. With a goal of 8 and 3 entries, 3 divided by 8 is 0.375, which becomes 37. With 8 entries the result is 100, and with 10 entries it stays at 100.

Goal Entries Progress
8 3 37
8 7 87
8 8 100
5 9 100

The same rule runs in the app and in the daily goal progress calculator, so both always show the same number.

Why is the number rounded down?

The number is rounded down so that the app never shows a goal as met before it is. Rounding to the nearest number would turn 99.5 into 100 while one entry is still missing. Rounding down keeps 100 for the moment the goal is really reached.

How should I read a full week?

Read a full week by counting the days on which you reached 100. That count shows whether the goal fits your routine. Single days vary for many reasons, so a low day says little on its own. A week where you reached the goal on most days means the goal is right or could grow; a week with few such days means it may be too high.

The guide on picking a daily goal you can keep explains what to change after such a week.

What happens at midnight?

At midnight in your phone’s time zone, today’s progress moves to the history and a new day starts at 0. When you travel, the day follows the time zone of the phone. Entries made before midnight always count for the day on which they were made. If you want a nudge before the day ends, see do reminders help you reach a daily goal.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the app show 87 and not 88?

The app rounds down. 7 entries with a goal of 8 is 87.5, which is shown as 87 so that 100 only appears when the goal is really met.

Can progress go above 100?

No. Extra entries are saved, but the progress value stays at 100 because the goal for the day is already met.

When does a new day start?

A new day starts at midnight in your phone's time zone. The progress resets to 0 and the previous day moves to your history.
